"Continue to build strategic fences along the Texas-Mexico border. Miles of barbed wire are used to repel illegal immigrants into our state," Abbott wrote. "Our border wall is making progress. Texas is protecting the border."

The tweet includes an image of a roll of barbed wire and another image of a complete chain fence, with the barbed wire at the top and facing in two directions. In the second photo, a male construction worker wearing a yellow vest is accompanying a team of front loaders driving parallel to the fence.

Abbott launched the border fence project in June after the end of the 87th Legislative Council meeting. The border wall has received hundreds of millions of dollars in state funding and donations, including more than $53 million in donations from Wyoming billionaire Timothy Mellon, who has supported Republican candidates.

Mellon's grandfather was the late Secretary of the Treasury Andrew Mellon.

The Texas Legislature provided an additional $1.02 billion in border security funding during the second convening meeting, most of which was used for border fences.

Both Republicans and Democrats support additional border fence funding, although some lawmakers oppose the view that the border is a disaster zone that requires a lot of security spending.

President Biden stopped building the border wall of the federal government almost after he took office in January. However, Arizona State Police Chief Biden nominated Chris Magnus, who is nominated to lead the US Customs and Border Protection, at the hearing that he is willing to restore part of the border wall if he is cautious.

In fiscal year 2021, the Texas Border Patrol has arrested more than 1.15 million illegal aliens, excluding the estimated number of people evading detention, and each arrest may be as many as two or more people.

In the Republican primary elections, all three Abbott challengers Chad Plaser, Don Heffens and Allen West made border security a key issue in the campaign. In fact, in the first few weeks of his candidacy, Heffens touted the support of Uwald Mayor Don McLaughlin.

When he supported Heffens in May, McLaughlin called Abbott a “fraud” and pointed out that Uvald’s school had to be closed because illegal immigration threatened security near the southern border of the town.

Abbott’s Republican opponents criticized him for failing to reduce illegal border crossings and made campaign promises to introduce stricter policies and become more confrontational with the federal government on this issue.

Although border security is primarily the responsibility of the federal government, Abbott strengthened the state’s border response through an effort called Operation Lone Star in March, which resulted in the arrest of tens of thousands of illegal foreigners and the seizure of thousands of pounds Of drugs.

In a statement issued to Texans on Monday, Erica Miller, press secretary of the Department of Public Safety (DPS), provided the latest statistics on Operation Lone Star, as of November 11.

"Since Operation Lone Star began, DPS has made 9,162 arrests, of which 1,864 were arrested for trespassing. It has also filed 7,230 felony charges. In addition, DPS has made more than 77,500 immigration arrests and referrals, and 929 vehicle hunts," Miller wrote.
